Yoga in Nature: A Personal Yoga Retreat Experience in Latin America

I woke up in the morning hearing the birds singing. That natural music instantly brought me back to my inner child and the joyful days in my parents’ house, a beautiful place surrounded by trees. One of them was especially meaningful: I grew up next to a huge pine tree. Every morning, what I saw was an ocean of green, the purest scent of wood and leaves, and a deep sensation of fulfillment and safety.
Years later, I encountered that same feeling while I was barefoot in the Pululahua Crater, near the Middle of the World in Ecuador, practicing yoga in nature. Surrounded by ancient trees, mountains, and the magnetic energy of this extinct volcanic crater, I was living a profound yoga retreat experience: one rooted in presence, earth, and memory.
When our guide invited us to close our eyes and feel the ground beneath our feet, something truly magical happened. I couldn’t have been happier to be there, experiencing a direct connection between my body and my roots, between my presence and the presence of my ancestors. It brought me back to those quiet childhood mornings, still in bed, listening to birdsong, trying to identify how many there were, and wondering if there was something deeper behind that music.
During this retreat, I was able to focus on my roots, on everything that allows me to feel safe and grounded while inhabiting this body that was given to me to experience this existence. Through mindful movement and stillness, I remembered what it means to truly arrive.
How did I get there?
It was a call from my inner soul.
From the outside, everything seemed to be going well; my personal life, my career, my social world. And then, unexpectedly, I was fired. At the time, it made no sense. My performance had been impeccable. But I was living inside a bubble of “having everything under control,” just like many of us do.
I was moving in circles within a routine that looked right and felt socially acceptable, while my heart was slowly shutting down. Life, in its own wisdom, decided it was time for me to step out of comfort and start moving toward where I truly belonged.
Where do I belong?
Since childhood, my sensitivity has been intense. Over time, I understood it was never a weakness — it was a gift I hadn’t been honoring. So the journey began by coming back to myself: journaling, meditation (which was incredibly challenging at first), and returning to my yoga practice.
As I realigned with my inner being, everything around me began to realign as well. Some people naturally faded from my life (without effort or pain) while others arrived. The real ones. Those who recognized in me a reconnection with essence.
Where do I belong?
In simple moments: a morning smile, listening to birds, identifying colors, and fully inhabiting the present.
After exploring different paths, I discovered the immense richness that Latin America offers — in energy, ancestral ceremonies, and ancient wisdom. That’s when I began exploring wellness retreats in Latin America, searching for spaces that honored the yoga and nature connection.
All I wanted was mindful movement, practicing yoga in natural landscapes, and to live my very first personal yoga retreat experience.
Words fall short when I try to describe the beauty I found and even more so when I try to explain what shifted inside me.
Being part of the Nature’s Pulse Retreat felt like opening a new portal in my life. From that moment on, everything felt different. Slower. Clearer. More alive. I finally understood (not intellectually, but viscerally) the true meaning of the “here and now.”
This is what wellness travel means to me: remembering who you are by returning to nature.
